The U-WIRE D.C. Bureau, formed in partnership with the GW Hatchet at
George Washington University, provides coverage of national issues of
interest to college students. Located just four blocks from the White
House and in the heart of the nation's capitol, the D.C. Bureau has a
unique vantage point to report on politics.
Established in Feb. 1999 by then-Hatchet news editor Matt Berger, the D.C.
Bureau has grown in both in the breadth and quality of stories since its
inception. The Bureau covered the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections from the
early primaries. In
addition to monitoring shifts in policy and legislation that affects
students, the Bureau has also covered numerous Washington protests and
speeches by top officials. It also reported breaking news on Sept. 11, the Beltway Sniper and the U.S. military strike on Iraq.
